Dr. Srilakshmi Rebala, MD, FACP
“I feel like we are normalizing chronic medical conditions as part of our aging process. I realized that it should not be that way.” - Dr. Srilakshmi Rebala
For as long as she can remember, Dr. Srilakshmi Rebala has believed that healing begins with truly understanding a person — their story, their habits, their stress, their environment, their history, and the experiences that have shaped their health over time. This belief guided her through more than two decades as a nephrologist, and ultimately led her to create The Renewal Method, where she brings a more holistic, root‑cause approach to patient care.
Dr. Rebala began her medical journey in Internal Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where she immersed herself in clinical work, research, and teaching. She then completed her Nephrology Fellowship at Emory University, one of the country’s most respected programs. In 2004, she began caring for patients in the Athens community, helping individuals manage kidney disease, hypertension, diabetes‑related kidney problems, and other complex conditions.
With each passing year, she noticed something important: many patients continued to struggle even when they were receiving the correct medications, the right procedures, and the best evidence‑based nephrology care. They were tired, inflamed, overwhelmed, dealing with gut issues, hormone imbalances, and stress that never seemed to quit. They wanted more time, more answers, and a deeper understanding of why they felt the way they did.
Dr. Rebala felt the same frustration they did. She wanted to deliver the kind of comprehensive care that insurance‑based medicine often makes difficult — longer visits, deeper conversations, advanced testing, personalized nutrition and lifestyle guidance, and an integrated view of the body that doesn’t treat symptoms in isolation.
That calling brought her to Functional Medicine.
She began an intensive journey of training, education, and certification, culminating in passing the A4M board exam in October 2025. This expanded her toolbox and deepened her understanding of metabolic health, hormonal balance, gut function, and longevity science. Today, she practices an integrative style of medicine that brings together the best of her nephrology expertise and the insights of functional, whole‑person care.
Her patients often describe her as warm, intuitive, and dedicated — a physician who listens deeply and treats them as partners in their healing. She believes strongly in patient empowerment and sees education as one of the most powerful tools in medicine. It’s why she has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia / Augusta University since 2012, teaching medical students and residents and helping shape the next generation of thoughtful, patient‑centered physicians.
Dr. Rebala is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Nephrology, and by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). She was elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) in 2017 and continues to stay at the forefront of both conventional and integrative medicine through ongoing study, research, and certification.
At The Renewal Method, her mission is simple:
to help you understand what’s happening in your body, uncover the root causes of your symptoms, and create a personalized path toward sustainable, vibrant health.
She looks forward to walking that journey with you.
